Lithium reaches agriculture
The Valencian company Sanz Hermanos incorporates the latest battery technology to their spraying machines
The Valencian company of phytosanitary treatments machinery Hermanos Sanz has presented a model of electric knapsack equipped with lithium battery, which is a great innovation for the agricultural sector, as it places the technology of these devices at the level of the most advanced applications of the moment.
As is known, the lithium batteries are now used extensively in all kinds of mobile phone devices, representing a major improvement over conventional rechargeable batteries because they last longer, better hold their charge and do not reduce capacity by ‘memory effect’ when recharging.
Alfonso and Juan José Sanz stressed that their goal was make the launch of a new generation of knapsacks that would mean a breakthrough in the field, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the family business. To do this they accelerated the studies on its R+D+i until getting this machine, dubbed ‘Pulmic Energy’, with large capacity (10, 15 and 18 liters) but limited weight, because today is critical to take care of aspects like safety and ergonomics at work.
The lithium battery is small compared to the power that deploys, it has autonomy from five to six hours, which is usually a day of continuous work in the field. The equipment has three pressure ranges, as required by each application type, and intensity is maintained until the end of the available charge.
Another novelty of Hermanos Sanz is related to the fight against the plague of red palm weevil. The solution is a telescopic spear that is five meters deployed to facilitate reaching the top of the palm trees treated. It can be applied with this knapsack or any other insecticide pressure source and has various types of nozzles for coupling applications to each case.
The company Hermanos Sanz was born in the 80s in the Carmen district of Valencia. When dying their father, Alfonso and Juan José decided to run the small family business, which have been extended to a large industry in Lliria with own tooling and plastic injection sections. They have 80 employees and export to more than 60 countries, also having factories in Mexico and China to supply from them to markets in the Americas and Asia.
